Take This Doc and Shove It

Bloomberg Business Week ran a piece on Wednesday on the European Union’s questionnaire to Serbia on reforms it needs to make to be eligible for membership in the European Union.
Shame on the president of Serbia for his response. Shame on the half-dead but so full-of-itself European Union. Instead of telling the European Union  to shove the document up its backside, Mirko Cvetkovic, the president of Serbia, said that the answer to the European Union’s   2, 483 “points” will be given by the end of January “with the aim that, by the end of 2011, we are given the candidate status that would bring European Union membership closer.” What a disgraceful bunch of greedy cowards the Serbian government is, so proudly subservient to the European Union. Whatever dubious good is involved in membership for the Serbian government or the European Union, it’s a safe bet the good will go entirely to those on the top, with no good left over for the ordinary good people of Serbia.
Two thousand four hundred and eighty three pages of things the Serbian government has to do to be eligible?  Isn’t anyone in the Serbian government insulted by that? I’m an American and I am insulted by it.
What would the United States government say if the European Union gave it a 2,483 point document containing political, economic and social reforms the United States government had to make to succeed in some aim or other? And just imagine the United States government being told by the European Union that a key obstacle to achieving its aim was its continuing failure to arrest war crimes suspects George Bush and Dick Cheney.
I’ll tell you what the United States government would say. It would say, “Hey, European Union, take your 2, 483 point document and shove it up your backsides.”
Kurt Vonnegut said someone did a study to learn why it is so easy for people to be cruel. He found that the Gospel has been misunderstood all these years and that it doesn’t teach mercifulness and kindness no matter what. It teaches this: “Before you humiliate someone, before you kill someone, make absolutely sure they aren’t well connected.”

In my youth I was a world class tournament golfer. I earned an MA in history at NYU, after which I knew I had had enough of academia. I have remained a student of history. I have a strongly personal - almost entirely negative- take on the contemporary pharmaceutical and mental health industries. That was the impetus for my Bluepolar blog, which will also include stuff on sports, history and anything else that strikes my interest.

The current Serbian government is comprised of quislings. Nothing they do is for Serbia’s benefit. They’re a shameful bunch who owe their allegiances elsewhere — to the debauched leaders of the EU and to the U.S. government, which still wields a lot of pressure over Serbia’s so-called leaders. It’s yet another case of follow-the-money.
